My name is Megha, and together with my husband Ankit, we run our photography studio in Melbourne. Today, I’m so excited to share Krishiv’s cake smash journey, a session filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable little moments.
A cake smash photoshoot is more than just photos. It’s an experience, and Krishiv’s session truly reflected that.
A Thoughtfully Planned Experience
From the very beginning, Krishiv’s mum was incredibly involved. She wanted everything to be perfect for her little one’s first birthday. She even brought along a couple of special props she had purchased herself, adding a personal touch to the session. This is something we always encourage when parents bring their ideas; it makes the shoot even more meaningful.
Krishiv was absolutely amazing. He was curious, expressive, and confidently smashed his cake like a pro! His reactions, tiny expressions, and joyful mess made these images some of my personal favourites.
Why I Chose This Background
For Krishiv’s session, I chose a soft, warm beige background paired with an organic safari-inspired setup. The balloon garland featured earthy tones like sage green, caramel, cream, and charcoal, with subtle giraffe-print balloons to enhance the jungle theme.
Natural elements such as faux greenery, vines, and twisted branches were woven throughout the setup to create a calm, organic jungle feel. At the centre, transparent golden cubes spelling “ONE” symbolised Krishiv’s first birthday, with matching neutral balloons inside.
Safari animal props, including a plush lion, elephant, giraffe, and wooden accents, completed the look. Lanterns, baskets, palm leaves, and textured decor added warmth and depth, making the setup playful yet elegant. This background works beautifully for first birthdays because it feels timeless, soft, and joyful without being overwhelming.
Coordinated Family Outfits – Same Look, Timeless Feel
One of the most beautiful parts of this session was the coordinated family outfits. Everyone wore shades of sage green, creating a harmonious and cohesive look.
The parents stood at the centre holding Krishiv, while the older children stood close, embracing him lovingly. Matching outfits combined with relaxed poses and gentle smiles brought out a sense of warmth, togetherness, and connection perfect for timeless family portraits.

Solo Portraits – Letting Your Baby Shine
Krishiv’s solo photoshoot captured his personality perfectly. He wore a soft green shirt with cream suspenders, matching shoes, and a cute beige cap, an outfit that complemented the safari theme beautifully.
Standing confidently while leaning on a small wooden stool, Krishiv smiled brightly, giving us natural and joyful moments. The earthy backdrop, greenery, golden “ONE” blocks, and safari props framed him perfectly, highlighting this precious milestone.
The Cake Smash Moment – Pure Joy
The cake smash is always the highlight, and Krishiv did not disappoint! Sitting on the floor, covered in frosting from head to toe, he explored the cake with curiosity and excitement.
His soft green romper tied the whole theme together, while the messy hands, frosted cheeks, and genuine expressions created heartwarming memories. This part of the session is all about letting your baby be themselves, messy, playful, and happy.
Bubble Bath Finale – Clean, Calm & Cute
To finish the session, we moved into the bubble bath photoshoot, which is always a favourite with parents. Krishiv sat happily in a small white tub filled with bubbles, smiling sweetly at the camera.
Surrounded by safari accents, leaf cutouts, and decorative letters spelling “ONE,” the scene felt playful, fresh, and calm. It’s the perfect way to end a cake smash photography session, cleaning up while capturing adorable splash-time moments.

Mum & Baby – A Moment of Pure Love
One of the most touching parts of the session was capturing Krishiv with his mum. Dressed in coordinated sage green tones, their gentle eye contact and natural smiles reflected comfort, trust, and unconditional love.
These images are calm, intimate, and timeless, celebrating the beautiful bond between mother and child.
Dad & Baby – Playful and Heartfelt
Krishiv’s photos with his dad were full of joy. Whether being lifted into the air or held close, these moments showcased trust, happiness, and connection. The neutral tones and soft lighting kept the focus on their relationship, creating portraits that feel natural and meaningful.

Family portraits bring everything together. With parents seated close, leaning toward each other, and their baby smiling on mum’s lap, these images perfectly capture togetherness and love. Coordinated outfits and a light, airy background gave these photos a timeless elegance.
Sibling Love – A Moment to Treasure
One of the most heartwarming setups featured Krishiv in a small white tub, clapping joyfully, while his older sisters knelt beside him, gently supporting the tub. Dressed in matching soft green dresses, they created a beautifully coordinated and emotional sibling portrait.
The safari-themed backdrop added a playful touch, while the interaction between the siblings made the moment feel natural, warm, and full of love.
